Caroline Sharkey Bio ::

Earlier influences of colour living in Papua New Guinea, as a child and the vivid contrasts in the fabrics and patterns at the local Chinese stores was a fantastic introduction to the world of Textiles for me.

Also growing up in the West of NSW has made the Australian landscape so important in my artwork.

A Fashion certificate in 1989 was the beginning of my journey into fashion and textile art that has been a passion ever since. In 1992 I started to exhibit my stitched artworks inspired by Australian themes and the things around me.

In the year 2000 I started selling Australian landscapes at the Sydney Opera House Markets. This was just before the Sydney Olympics and tourism was huge, this experience gave me knowledge about selling my artwork with very positive feedback giving me confidence.

My work has been featured in numerous textile and art publications in Australia and I am a regular contributor to quilting and embroidery magazines. Teaching for many groups and communities all over Australia the many surface design techniques that I use in my artwork has become a favourite part of my time.

Inspiring students to play outside the lines and relax the rules is so exciting to me when I see the satisfaction in their work and on their faces.
